Malala-Tau Tours & Safaris is a proudly South African destination management company — and a training academy building the guides who will run this industry next.
Malala-Tau Holdings began in 2003 as a small, proudly South African, BEE-owned tour operator working the routes we knew best — Soweto, the Cradle of Humankind, and the reserves within a day's drive of Johannesburg.
Two decades on we operate as a full destination management company. We handle ground operations for inbound tour operators, corporate and government clients, schools and universities, and travellers arriving from all over the world. Safaris, cultural journeys, airport transfers and conference logistics all run out of the same office, with the same people accountable for them.
The training academy came out of a simple observation: the industry is short of good guides, and the people best placed to become them often cannot afford the route in. So we built it ourselves.
Work with us
To create memorable and enriching experiences that foster a deep appreciation for our environment and our culture, while promoting sustainable tourism practices that benefit the local communities we work in.
To be recognised as a leading South African tourism provider, known for exceptional service, a genuinely diverse offering and a real commitment to sustainability — building meaningful connections between travellers and the places they visit.
Passenger safety comes before schedule. Maintained vehicles, licensed drivers, consistent crews and proper insurance on every trip.
Bookings that hold, vehicles that arrive, and logistics that work — the unglamorous part of tourism that decides whether a trip succeeds.
Streamlined, demand-driven operations so clients get quick answers, firm quotes and itineraries that actually fit the time available.
Financial and operational longevity — a business that will still be here to honour a booking made two years in advance.
Mindful stewardship of the reserves and landscapes we work in. Conservation fees are part of the price, not an afterthought.
Training local people into real tourism careers, and buying from community businesses on every route we run.
Four divisions, one operations team — which is why a safari, a transfer and a conference shuttle can sit on the same booking.
Day and multi-day Big Five safaris across four provinces, private or small group.
Soweto, Lesedi, the Cradle of Humankind and the museums that tell South Africa's story.
Airport transfers, chauffeur services, conference shuttles and national group transport.
Guide training, information officer programmes and community tourism development.
Tourism moves a lot of money through communities without always leaving much in them. We try to work the other way round.
